Blue World

Blue has followed me across the country.
It appears in the early light over Yosemite, in the Pacific surrounding Hawaii, and in the endless sky above Los Angeles. It reflects off the glass and steel of Manhattan, stretches toward the horizon in Miami, and frames the palms, courts and boardwalks of Venice and Santa Monica.
These photographs were made in different places and at different times, without the intention of becoming a single collection. Looking back, however, I began to notice the connection between them.
The blue changes from place to place. Sometimes it is bright and open. Sometimes it is quiet, cool or nearly gray. In Hawaii and Miami, it belongs to the water. In Yosemite, it settles behind granite walls. In New York and Los Angeles, it creates space above crowded streets and architecture.
Together, the photographs form a visual journey from coast to coast—different landscapes, cities and moments connected by one recurring color.
